Sudarshan Gautam - disabled climber - Interview in FFWD

'Leg is My Hand'

In 1994, a 14 year-old-kid nearly died when he tried to reach a kite in Kathmandu where naked live wires are left close enough for kids to reach. The 11,000 volts burnt both of his hand but left the kid alive, strong enough to surprise world with his courage and determination. The ill fated kid, Sudershan Gautam, is grown up now, and is currently living in Calgary, studying English at Mount Royal College and is determined to climb Mount Everest on the March of 2012.

Sudershan has already climbed a 5732m Yala Peak on Aug 24, 2005. He says that the peak was far more technical than Mt. Everest. By climbing Mt. Everest he would like to spread the message that 'Disability is not inability'.

Sudershan today sent a link to his interview which is published in today's Fast Forward Weekly News. The newspaper can be obtained for free from any public places in Calgary.

We wish him all the best for his Mt. Everest attempt and hope Nepali government and non-government organizations will emphasis safety as one of the basic needs of an individual. It is seen that safety is not one of the priority in Nepal. We play dangerous games like 'dandi-biyo' without proper attire (some even consider it a National game). Structures are constructed without proper safety considerations and lives are undervalued due to lack of proper knowledge.

Please visit Sudershan's website http://sudarshangautam.com/ to know more about him and stories about how he drove cars and bikes with his legs.
